| NOTES ON COVER PRICES.
PLEASE NOTE THAT UK DISTRIBUTED AMERICAN COMICS WILL USUALLY HAVE A UK PRICE SOMEWHERE ON THE COVER. Original American copies have USA prices printed on the covers. This is usually 10c or 12c for Silver Age comic books. If you only see a USA price listed then it has no other price marks on it. Some USA priced copies did get imported and escaped having the distributors UK price stamped on the cover. In recent years the supply of 10c or 12c USA priced Silver Age comics has increased greatly in the U.K.as many comics have been purchased direct from the USA by collectors. British copies fall into two categories. 1. Imported and distributed USA priced (10c or 12c usually) copies but with a British distributors stamp giving the UK price on the cover as well as the USA price. Most D.C. comics are like this and many Marvel comics fall into this category. The major distributor was T&P (Thorpe & Porter). 2. A British price printed on the cover in place of the USA price. These covers were printed in the USA at the same time as the original printing of the comics but printed in smaller numbers as overseas priced copies. These British priced copies rarely have a distributors price stamp on them as there was no need for one. British prices on Silver Age comics are in old Imperial prices before the U.K. switched to decimal prices. These prices are usually 9d (9 pennies) , 10d (10 pennies) or 1/- (one shilling. One shilling =12 pennies). Some larger comics were at different prices such as 1/6 (1 shilling and 6 pennies) or 2/6 (2 shillings and 6 pennies). On some of the early 1970s comics you will see prices such as 6p. This is a new decimal price of 6 new pennies which was a bit more than 1 old shilling or 1/-.
